friend asked me to make one for his winxphome-sony computer.
since apparently nowadays, you don't get the winxp cd with the computer, costs extras at $hit Buy...so...anyone wanna help me out here, or at least point me in the right direction...thanks :)

As I've never worked on a Sony computer, my advice may not be accurate. Most of the newer computers that don't include Recovery CD's have all the information on a partition of the hard drive formatted in FAT32.

While the computer is booting and the company logo splash screen is up, you should see two options in text at the bottom of the screen. One should be the key to go into bios and the other should be restore. Hitting the restore key will usually bring up a screen with three or four options. One of these should be making/burning the recovery disks. Hope this helps! :)

A co-worker just bought a new laptop (may even be a sony). She had one chance to burn her own Restore/Recovery CD's as part of the set up process.

Does it have a DVD burner? If so you may be able to use something like Norton's Ghost to copy the C Drive.

my brother has a newer HP. all the recovery data is stored in a FAT32 partition on the HD. however it also gave him the opprtunity to make a back up disc. or rather 2 back up DVD's.

personally, that's always bugged me. having all the recovery stuff stored on the computer. maybe i'm just used to having a CD that says what's on it, as opposed to having it all stashed away on the computer. i'm weird like that

It was a Gateway, and came with 5 blank CD-R's to create her system disks.
