    Hi,
I have a Compaq SR1030NX that has been acting up. I have tried all kinds of tools to try and figure out why it freezes. Not a memory problem, not over heating etc.. There is on the computer a recovery console. I try to access it but it asks for a password. I have NEVER, to my knowledge, set a password on this machine. Is there a way to access this without a password?
    Thanks.

Did you try leaving the password line blank and just hitting <enter>? Sometimes this works.

I just did an install of XP on a machine the other day so it is fresh in my mind. During install it asked for an Administrator password. Then the next screen asked to create a user which could be left with no password.

Someone may have a solution for the recovery console password but maybe try entering safemode (F8 immediately after boot screen) and you should get a Welcome screen that lists Administrator as one of your choices. Can you get into Administrator with no password? If so change the password to something new and then try recovery console using that password.
