Recovery console

i tried to recovery console but i couldnt do it. i got an error says
window could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt.
(windows root>/system32\hal.dll.
please re install a copy of the above file
when i boot my pc i get 2 options. 1 to do RC and other just to run window.
is there anyway i can get rid off that options. also boot.ini file is missing.

from what i remember, hal.dll isn't an easy file to replace since it's the hardware abstraction layer. (basically it's the thing that allows you to use the same os with different hardware configuration, and it's kind of like a driver)

 

That error message is almost always caused by a corrupt or missing boot.ini. Very rarely is hal.dll actually missing.

Boot to the Recovery Console using your XP CD, and follow the directions in this thread:

If you do not have a windows xp disk, download the following file: rc.iso

Create a bootable CD from rc.iso; which, is a CD image file.

i have reinstalled the windox xp. also changed my hard drive .
got my data saved on old hard drive but i lost all the softwares tho.

you after installing i still cnt upload videos by firefox and IE.
whys that?
