    Hi
Is it possible to bypass the Administrator password in the recovery console - no password was ever set yet it still asks for one?

    Thanks

    Leaving it blank doesn't work?

Does anyone on the computer have a password? Sometimes it will accept another users password if they have administrator privileges.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

To clarify: what happens when you are prompted for an admin p/w, you leave the field blank and press 'enter'?

Yep..field is left blank..enter is pressed then im prompted to enter password again because of incorrect password typed. Im given 3 attempts then prompted to press enter to reboot computer.

Not sure of any work around. What is the original problem with the PC and what is your plan to do in recovery console?

Basically, the Vista Operating system seemed to be corrupted i.e. refusing to load. I thought if I could get into recovery console I'd be able to do a system repair - I can't though because of the password issue. Been reading about the prob on the net and it seems quite alot of peeps have the same issue with M/Soft, Dell and others washing their hands of the issue. The most plausible I have read to date says that whoever installs the o/s for dell comps uses 'Sysprep' and they most likely passworded the system - does that make any sense?

I'm not sure of the cause but I have seen several threads where Vista suddenly begins asking for a password after some sort of boot up problem.

I thought recovery console was only an XP utility. I am unsure what commands you would try to run. Do you have your Vista installation disc?
