I had to replace the HD on my laptop because it was damaged.

I have the new one now, but I can't set it up. :/

I have a "recovery disc" but it can't seem to setup the new HD from that.

What do I need to set this up?

    Thanks.

The OEM dvd's, or a set of DVD's that you burnt. Think of the Recovery Disc as a key to a door lock, with the Recovery partition on the hard drive as the door lock.

I don't think my laptop came with a dvd.

Is there no other way I can start my laptop?

You could purchase your own set of CD's or get contact the mfr of the machine to see if they still offer OEM CD's. What is the mfr & model of the machine?

I do have a backup of my laptop somewhere, I just not have been able to find it.

I should just be able to restore the OS from the backup, it's about 10gb right?

    OK, thanks...

If you paid for a license, and if your computer has a sticker with a license (product key) you did, then you can download the appropriate OS install .iso file from:
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-from-digital-river/

Digital River is Microsoft’s partner for fulfillment on online distribution for downloadable Microsoft products. Download the .iso that matches the one you had on the machine to start with, burn to DVD, and then use it to install the OS on the computer in question.

Take note that this will be a clean install, you'll have to load up any programs or files you had from backups, if you have them.

I found the backup I had of the HD.

I want to restore just the OS(I don't need all the other stuff) can I do that?

My options in Acronis are to restore the whole thing, or just One partition.

Which one of them should I restore? https://www.dropbox.com/s/ukiltwfolrilxm5/2012-11-13%2020.29.06.jpg
