Recovery Disk (D) "Low"

My Recovery/D disk (10GB) only shows between 8 & 12% "free", no matter what I do (Vista Home Basic).

And it won't completely defrag either (was getting 30+% fragmented, now have it down to *-something % - using iObit-Smart Defrag).

When the monthly back-up tool runs, doesn't it simply over-write the previous back-up?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance ...

    Hi Glenn,

Your recovery partition D: isn't overwritten by your monthly backups. This is a partition on your hard drive, made by the manufacturer ( Dell, in your case I believe. ) to restore your computer to an as bought condition. This is usually in a FAT 32 format, and I wouldn't worry about it showing low space or being fragmented. Did your computer ship with backup media ( DVD's ) ?

I believe that you are confusing this with System Restore.

    Hope this helps! :)

Thank you, and yes, Dell shipped with the back-up DVD's, so it sounds as if I am doing my "much-ado about nothing" routine as I seem so often wont to do - lol ...

    Thanks again,
    Glenn
