Recovery system will not run

I have a VAIO Laptop running Windows XP.

I have recently noticed that my PC has been infected with a malicious program, but not sure what.

I have run A-Squared, Malware Bytes, and Sophos Anti-Root Kit. But, issue is still unresolved!!!

In brief, my laptop is lagging like never before. When I browse the internet by PC freezes up. Running offline programs results in the same scenario.

In the end, I thought re-formatting my laptop would resolve everything. But, now I am realizing that, for some unknown reason, my VAIO Recovery System will not run to restore my PC to default factory settings.

When asked to confirm if that is in fact what I intend to do, the PC will automatically restart to begin the VAIO Recovery System. But, instead, the laptop simply reboots without starting the Recovery System.

What gives? Anyone have any thoughts on how to re-format it?

using the factory restore function may be a bit extreme at the moment.have you tried the malware removal guide here at MG'S " http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 ".
just follow the guide and post the required logs in the malware forum and the malware pro's will help you from there,they are really the best when it comes to ridding your computer of viruses.worth trying before the factory restore.good luck and happy new year.
