(Sorry i'm not too sure if this is in the right place, I do apologise if it's in the wrong area :/)

Hiya all this is my first post here so i'm glad to meet you :)

Basically i'm having problems with my Recycle Bin, I have been having them for a while now so I thought it was about time I got some help, when I delete a file, it doesnt send it to the Recycle Bin it permanently deletes it, however when I delete a file from the 2nd harddrive ( F: ) on my computer it sends it to the Recycle Bin without a problem..

I've tried many methods but I just can't get the files on my main harddrive ( C: ) to be sent to the Recycle Bin when deleted..

Also, when I click on the Recycle Bin properties the 2nd tab at the top displays my 2nd harddrive ( F: ), just wondered if this has anything to do with the problem.. Any help at all will be appreciated ! Thanks in Advance :)

While I am thinking about it, run this:
start / run / type "sfc /scannow" without qoutes and note the space ..have your xp disc ready when it prompts you ....may have to run it more than once.

When done ...check this registry value:

Thanks for the advice mate but unfortunatly I don't have an XP disk to hand :/ This PC was bought from ebay with it pre-loaded on so I didn't actually receive a disk. Is there any other way around this?

Thanks for the quick replies, I followed the instructions and created the key setting it to "0" however there is no change, the files are still being deleted permanently :/

Go back to your properties and check that box for configure drives independantly ....and this permanent delete usually only happens if you are holding down the shift key when you choose to delete .....

Okay I checked the box "Configure Drives Independently"

It's permanently deleting the files regardless of me holding down the Shift key :S

Is it not weird that the 2nd tab at the top is set to change the options of F:? thats my 2nd HDD, my main is C:.. Sorry i'm not too good at this

Yes, it is strange ...you should have a tab for all drives/partitions.
Reboot and then change back to same setting for all drives. Reboot.

One more thing ....the bin isn't full, is it?

I thought so :/ so for some reason recycle bin just doesnt want to pick up on the fact that I actually have a C: ? it's so confusing.. perhaps the exe is corrupt ? that's assuming it has one.. like I said i'm not too good at this kind of stuff at all hehe :)

Edited cause i didn't make it clear:
The recycle bin may contain a corrupt, or otherwise incorrect information
file. If format is FAT, then from a command prompt change to the recycler
directory, then do a dir to see what files you might find and delete any
    files found, then
    attrib -h info*
this should unhide the info* file that stores the information about the
original location of deleted files in the recycle bin. Delete this file.

If format is NTFS then change to the recycler directory then change to the
hidden directory named for your SID (this can be found from within Explorer,
(by expanding the recycler folder). Then
    attrib -h info*
this should unhide the info* file that stores the information about the
original location of deleted files in the recycle bin. Delete this file

Then the next time you move files to the recycle bin another hidden info
    file will be created.

Another option is to delete only the info or info2 file (in the recycler
dir) and then restart the pc, then a new and correct information file will
be created in the recycler directory.

Thanks a lot for this help TimW, another daft question on it's way :S you refer to the "recycler directory" I don't know where it is or cant seem to find it.. maybe i've misunderstood something lol I usually do.. do you mean the folder that opened when I double click the recycle bin icon? or another folder somewhere?

EDIT: Also, what is SID? (sorry)

    Damaged Recycled Folder
The Recycled folder itself can become damaged. Files are moved to the folder and the Recycle Bin on the desktop appears full, but you cannot view the contents and the Empty The Recycle Bin command is unavailable. Deleting this folder and restarting Windows will re-create this folder and restore functionality:
    1. Restart to a command prompt.
    2. Type attrib -s -h recycled.
    3. Type del recycled.
    4. Restart the computers.

I know this will work, da*m it!!! AAArrrrrgghhh.

Open a command prompt window: Start > Run, type "cmd".
If the window opens in a directory other than the root, type "cd \" and
    press enter.
To see the folder, type "Dir /a r*" and press Enter.
To delete the folder, type "rd /s Recycler" and press Enter.
You should get "Recycler, Are you sure (Y/N)?".
Type "y", press Enter, and the folder and all of its contents are gone.
Windows will build a new folder the next time you delete a file to the
recycle bin or if you double-click on the Recycle Bin icon on the desktop.
