I am running Win XP Pro and have a problem with the recycle bin. When I delete files they bypass the bin. I am sure you know the consequences of this. I know the tick box (to bypass the bin) under properties in not checked and the files are not large so the capacity is set to 20% and is fine. Also tried several MS fixes and even renamed the Regestry key. But still the problem exists. When I open properties, the only tab is "Global" and there is no tab for any drives (c). I am not holding the shift key when I delete, nor can I drop and drag to the bin. On limited occassion, the bin will indicate several files, but when asked to empty the bin, I reply yes and there are still the same number files remaining. Rebooting, and the bin is empty. Also, I am not able to install any Windows updates, but that will be addressed in another post.
    Thanks

Out of curiosity, do you have norton systemworks installed?

Norton is installed on the network server, but I am off net, running local when this happens.

Woah! You said norton is run on the server. Which tells me that you are on a network at work? Or at home? If at work, this could be a policy that was set. So, is this a work computer?

Are the files you are deleting on the local machine or on the network? If the files are on the network, then bypassing the recycle bin is normal behavior.

    To capn_caveman:
The deleted files are NOT on the network.
    To threefool:
They on a work computer but I have administrative privilage to edit and change. Ran this by our IT boys and they are stumped. Next step for them is FDISK and reinstall XP.

Are you deleting files via the command prompt or through the gui?

    In addition:

    HKLM\Software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\bitbucket

Do have a key named NukeOnDelete set at 1? If so, chnage this to 0.

ALSO, check under HKCU (same location)
