Hi, new here to Major Geek forum, I am looking for an answer to the question why do I sometimes have a green check on certain shortcut Icons, and then later when I reboot have a red hexagon shape with a white exclaimtion point inside. I also have it on some of my picture folder icons. I don't know what this means and what I need to do to correct it. On my desktop it is on a second copy of Microsoft Office Icons. Please help if anyone knows what this is about. Thanks! Kat:wave

    Sounds like a backup utility.
Do you use Carbonite, Gilware, Iron Mountain, etc?

Could also be some other program that does file management, virus scanning or encryption...

Yeah, what rjordan said. Do you store some files on a cloud account? I get a green check box on my Dropbox files. When the PC turns on it is a red x until the folders and files sync with the online account...
