I have a HP Compaq NX7400 that has a red vertical line down the left side of my screen. I connected an external monitor and it has no red line. I'm curious how I can test to see if it is the LCD cable or the LCD itself? I have other laptops that are working. I'm just curious how interchangeable LCD cables are?

    Thanks in advance! rolleyes

    Hi Rez,

That's an indication that a red vertical address line is stuck on. Not likely that the cable could cause that. Highly likely to be a fault in the LCD Monitor. Best way to check is to try it on another Comp. You have already proven that another monitor does not have the probelm. Cables today may be identical. Years ago they would not have enough signal leads.

    Good Luck, Jim
