Redirected when trying to download from web

Guys,

Something is up with my computer. I cant get WMP to start and whenever I try to download anything from the web, I get redirected to http://www.smart-finder.biz/1525/

I have tried everything, norton, adaware, spybot

Any suggestions?

 

empty all your temp internet files, cookies, and history. make sure your home page it set to something you want it to be. then try it.

more info related to what website you are going to for the WMP downloads would be useful.

1) I run the Norton Antivirus Intell update:

2) I inactivared the system restore (See Symantech homepage)

3) I run full virus scan and deleted all infected files.

4) I run "regedit" in Start / Run

5) I searched for all files named "smart-finder", "quicken" etc and deleted all files

6) I emtied the "restore" and "recycle" under Windows (can be hidden files).

7) I zerod the Internet Favoites, the history, cockies, and tem files.

8) I turn on the System restore again.

9) I kept my fingers crossed - it worked!

There are a lot of entries for this nasty. I cut and pasted the prior message because it gave him a solution. Good luck

 

There are a several reasons why I don't trust this advice

1. It's not from a known anti-malware site, it's from a user whose level of expertise is totally unknown, who:
2. Implies Norton Antivirus can nuke a hijacker - this is not true.
3. Recommends deleting everything named 'quicken' which is a well know personal finance program - I wouldn't recommend doing this!

Phil's advice is much more sound. If that doesn't do it, then a look at his HjackThis log is in order.
