I am sure this would be easy for some of you. I have a 100x100 JPEG icon that needs to be reduced to 60x60 pixels. Is there free software that will reduce all components of the icon proportionally?

    I am a little confused.

A JPEG is a picture file. It only has a single component.

For it to have multiple components it would need to be a .ico file. and it wouldn't really need reducing since each of the componenets in an ico file are different sizes and color depths.

Here is a link to the "must have free downloads" http://www.majorgeeks.com/page.php?id=20

Just scroll down to Edit or organize my photos and pick one. IrfanView is popular and easy to work with.

As you can see, I don't know what I am talking about -- lol. All I know is that when I tried to reduce the icon using Paint, I select all and the input the new size, 60x60, and just the box around the icon was reduced -- cutting off a section of the image inside the box.

I'll try Matacumbie's idea to see if I have better luck.

Try the link Matacumbie posted, you might find something useful there.

    HI!
Yes...get Irfanview to do the job for you as Matacumbie suggested.
Open the pic in Irfanview, click 'Image'>Resize/Resample
Make it the size you need...sharpen it..lighten it...enhance it
Then click 'File'>Save AS and save it as ICO...you're good to go!
    ;)

You can do it also with Paint.

Use the Image-Stretch/Skew and enter the percent vertical and horizonal to change it. Then you can check the Image-Attributes to see what the pixels area.
