Reformat Problem...

to be brief... I started to partition a harddrive and recreate some files that were on the harddrive on one of the partitions that were backed up by XML, and found that the software won't recreate the files on the partition because it is smaller than the original harddrive.

So, I tried to eliminate the partitions only one of them had operating system files on it, in particular a pagefile, and won't delete the partition, and I can't delete the files, as long as my system is booted up because the system is accessing the page file.

If I use safe mode will I be able to delete the files, and the partition, and reformat the harddrive? and, How do I initiate Safe Mode, again?

 

do you want to format the whole drive ?, keep tapping F8 on start up for safe mode

 

yes, I have to in order to get the files that were written to disk by XML to run. The software won't write them to a smaller partition. So, I have to write them to the whole harddrive, move them to my main drive and then reformat and partition again.

I had no idea that the software wouldn't write the files to the smaller partition even when the files are not extensive enough to require all of that space. I wouldn't have partitioned first if I had.

 

Oh, also if you need to know, I have Windows XP Home edition, if that makes a difference.

 

how many hdd's do you have installed, if you re-format a drive you will be starting from scratch
