reformatting an emachine w/XP

I have an emachine model w2888 with DVD/ CD-RW combo drive . It came with 3 restore disks .running Windows XP home edition,SP-1 ,,BIOS type AMl .I had a trojan problem and wasn't sure it was gone . I used the disks and restored . I have been told this is restore lite ,,and that to really do what I meant to do( purge the system back to the beginning) I need to reformat the HD .. ? The restore I did didn't ... Also the system suggested repair option of a missing file by inserting disk and pressing "r" at first screen ??? this also failed because I never saw the option it simply went to a screen where I have 2 option restore press 1 the other wants you to type commands A\:___________ ??? I press 1 it warns all data will be lost (i wished) and a screen with a ghost appears and it loads the disk with a display showing like a file download . I have done this a few times and 2 times it has still had problems and said run set up again .. I have a list of options on F8 including safe mode and 3 on f10 which I think tells it to reboot from disk first or USB or this number i think is insystem ? F1 gets BIOs . Can I reformat or do a destructive restore that wipes it all clean including an viruses worms or trojans???

 

If you format, then you will lose whatever data is on that drive or partition.

You could try a Repair of XP, but you don't have a Windows CD.

Some OEM manufacturers have this feature, using the Restore CD's or an installation folder.

If you post back with the brand, someone will be able to guide you through the procedure.
