reformatting win xp

    I have an 80gb hard drive and when i tried using fdisk and reformat,,it is only showing 1079,,where is the rest of my hard drive,,it is not showing up anywhere?

    Well, to be honest you really shouldn't be using fdisk anymore these days. It's old, and unless you plan on installing windows 98 you shouldn't be using it at all.

    If oyu want to reformat and install windows XP just boot of the XP CD and you can select to format the entire drive from within there, doing it in fdisk prior to launching the install is no longer needed or recommended.

    Although it should be able to display an 80GB drive in Fdisk, but unless you are doing a 98 install I really woulnd't bother worrying about fdisk not working correctly as it's really outdated.

    Ok,,I used the win xp disk and it is now letting me use the other part of the hard drive,,thanks so much for your help! Have a nice night!
