I just need some expert advice concerning a good registry cleaner that would be user friendly to someone who has never used one before? Thanks for your help!

Thanks to both of you for the quick replies and advice. I will use CCleaner-Slim. (and pray a lot) :)

Ccleaner is one of the best IMO and many others.. There is like one or two others that (some may tell you) but most will say this. Ccleaner is the safe and its not going to till your computer up using it.

The Cadillac of registry cleaners etc. is JV16 Powertools 2009. I do a scan, and then check all the results one by one, and only delete the items I recognize. Doing a registry scan and doing a cleanup with a registry cleaner is very dangerous. I know you can back up, but it's not fool proof.

you beat me to it domluc i was about to add my comment.i think i will anyway.as for safety and ease of use i have used ccleaner probably since its conception and i am that confident with the program i never keep backups when prompted and i regularly use it daily.i do use another reg cleaner probably once a month and i would not recomend that program to a novice user.

I'll also reccomend ccleaner, but lets face it,if you really want safe, don't use a regcleaner at all. There isn't a whole lot of real reasons why you need to do it.

By all means you should use what you're comfortable with. I am as much an average user as anyone. The trick is not to delete anything you don't recognize. JV16 has a good back up too. They just came out with a free simple version that's pretty neat.

If you recognize every item a registry shows you, then you're not an average user. The average user does not recognize all the items recognize a registry cleaner will find. Indeed, they probably will recognize very little of the findings from a scan. And, to expect every user to research all the items found before deciding whether to remove them or not is just not very realistic.

This is why CCleaner is often recommended in this forum. A truly average users can safely use it without having to determine what every item from a scan is.

Alright. The bickering needs to stop. Nobody is interested in how average a user any of you are--or are not. Take it to PMs if you want to discuss it further.

I used to clean the registry when I had my 1GHz Celly and was installing/uninstalling apps like mad, I did notice a difference in responsiveness, after I moved up to a dual and now a quad and only install what I need, I see no reason to clean the registry. Just my opinion.:)

Historically, no performance increase has ever come from a registry cleaner. :)

Anyways, to each their own. There are always exceptions.

Oh, this is for madwethen if you will use CCleaner, first time I used it I wiped out all the cookies and history in FireFox inadvertently because the options were in 'Applications'.:-o It took me a while to rebuild the 50 or so sites that I am a member of, with u/n and p/w. Those cleanings are on by default!:banghead I really should go through everything first before hitting the clean button!:-D

I don't believe we've gotten into bickering here. Heyyou even thanked me for posting a different perspective on an "average user". My reason, and I believe DomLuc's reason, for posting a reply to Heyyou was to express a word of caution to those forum visitors who probably should not be lead into thinking they could easily and safely use JV16 when doing so could possibly take them into troubled waters.

I don't think DomLuc is bickering, rather I think he's trying to tell me I know more than I think. Thanks for the compliment, and your probably right on the analogy. :)

I searched the net for a couple of days trying to find a good registry cleaner and after debating which was the best one I got RegCure and very happy with it.
Very easy to use and cleaned better than CCleaner.
I also received excellent tech support for a problem I had so am very happy that I chose this program.
Could not ask for anything better including their support.
