    Hi,
I am having alot of trouble accessing regedit through run. I can access it fine through c:/windows but not run. Also i am having trouble activating a norton security product as configuration keeps failing. I ran a diskdefragment earlier and it couldn't defragment some of the folders, is this down to the registry files? Please can someone help as this is becoming a problem.
    Thanks
    Luke

Does regedit work ok in Safe Mode? Have you tried copying the regedit.exe and then renaming the copy regedit.bat and then trying to run that?

Believe it or not I had this problem but when I reinstalled windows a while back it fixed it...DUH. It seems u either have some other software not allowing u to use run to get into regedit or u erased the path to it from that command. I'm not sure but that's how I got mine fixed.

    This sounds optimal.

Another test would be, if one could also bring up:

    notepad

This resides in the same path as regedit, from the Run Prompt within windows.

Yet another way to bring up regedit, is to type in:

    regedt32

One note to: Gower: No, renaming the extension for .exe to .bat WILL NOT help. Though, .exe to .com works.

when i type notepad into run it works aswell as if i type regedt into run it works as well. But it still doesn't work when itype regedit into run. Is it just a missing file and how do i fix it or is t something alot worse?

Just to clarify. If you type regedt (note the spelling) into the run box, the regedit program comes up fine? If you type regedit (again spelling) the regedit program will not show up? If this is the case then something renamed the file on you. You should be able to rename the file. I would run through the malware

Thats exactly what is happening o as u said there must be a missing file or renamed file. I have tried the malware step by step briefly but i will try it again.
