I just browsed through a thread about CCleaner and a registry cleaning. Could someone tell me the importance of a registry cleaning and how do you know you need it? I don't have a clue.

    Re: Registry Cleaning

The title of this thread should be Registry Cleaning. For some reason, I can't go in and edit the title.

    Re: Registry Cleaning

I know it's very un-geekish of me not to know what registry cleaning is, but that's why I came to this forum, to learn.

P.S. I don't even know what a registry is.

    Webopedia's definition for 'registry'

Registry cleaning is good, because it gets rid of the useless registry files for the programs and files you don't use anymore, and therefore, your computer speeds up.

My personal favorite program for cleaning the registry is TweakNow RegCleaner, an offshoot of the old RegCleaner program.

If your computer is slowing down, you could try a registry cleaning, because it could be from the dead entries that are bloating it.

First of all, I would like to say that you guys are great here at this forum and thanks for the information. Second of all:

"It is always advisable to back up your registry before making any changes to it. Note that the Registry is intended to be a little intimidating, because it is possible to screw up your entire system if you don't know what you're doing. If you back up the Registry before continuing, you eliminate this possibility.
To back up the Registry in Windows 95/98/Me, just make copies of the registry files (described below). In Windows 2000 and Windows XP, you'll need special backup software to make an effective and complete Registry backup."

    Introduction to the Registry

This is the very reason why a friend of mine flees when it comes to using the internet. Also, it's going to take me a a little while to learn all of this. (Thinking to myself: "Didn't someone once say that ignorance is bliss?" :D ;) )
