Registering a domain

ok I'm wondering how all this domain registering stuff works. Like who is the main registerating company etc, and how would i go about registering my own internet ending like .me or something the doesnt exist, all that stuff just confuses me.

 

The organization that primarily runs the show is http://www.icann.org/ They have authority over top level domains, such as net, org, and com. There are also country codes. .me happens to be Montenegro. ICANN then accredits companies that are going actually issue the domains to individuals or companies. Eh, I don't think you want to register a .me domain. As JPSchwartz, that's a country extension that indicates Montenegro.

I suggest using godaddy.com to register your domain name. I've used them for several years. They're now one of the most popular domain registrars.

In the USA. The most popular is .com followed by .net, .US, and .org (you have to show proof that your are incorporated as None for Profit Organization to get .org).

Some specific businesses would use also extraction as .info .biz and few others, the rest are extensions designated for other countries. You can buy one but then people would thing that you are operating from elsewhere.

There are vendors that are actually official TLD sellers, and none official go between vendors that buy on your behalf.
It is safer to buy form an official ICANN Vendor

 

And, GoDaddy.com is one of those ICANN-Accredited Registrars.
