Apart from CCleaner can you recommend another Freeware Registry Cleaner. Many thanks, Roseman07 :wave

One that I use and is available here from Major Geeks is Regseeker, a word of caution just delete the Green items to start with, and always make certain the Back-up box is checked. It is a much more aggressive cleaner than CCleaner, and requires more care and knowledge. That said I have never had a problem with it Link http://majorgeeks.com/RegSeeker_d2579.html Hope that helps

TweakNow (TN) RegCleaner is good- not very thourough, but good and safe. Wise Registry Cleaner is good. Advanced Window Care is good too, and it has a spyware/malware checker and other cool stuff....

I have tried a few freebies in Vista ( as I know thats your OS ) ... but I'm using CCleaners registy scan which work fine, while I'm waiting to see if updates to the aggressive ones are forthcoming, RegSupreme is really good but its not free.

Some Say Regcleaner an old one works but I didnt get it to run, installs ok using Admin rights but hangs on running, EDIT ah ok you need to rightclick the installer and run as admin then you need to rigth click the Shortcut .exe and choose Properties > Compatability tab and tick Run as Admin so it can have access tot eh registry, many of the Regcleaners suffer with this at present, until as I mentioned above updates are released.

Personally, I use EasyCleaner along with CCleaner. It finds a few registry entries CCleaner misses, and it has a function to clear temp files and such for all users. Very easy to use and safe (except for the Duplicate Files scan, which only experts should mess with).

Available from MajorGeeks, follow bigbazza's link.

    Halo

thanks for the tip with regcleaner. Now I can use my fav' regcleaner and CCleaner with Vista

i've been using regcleaner forever and never had a problem with it. CCleaner installed without a hitch and runs fine. The other would install on Vista, but would never remove anything and/or would hang at some point. Your suggestion got it up and cleaning !

    thanks

    My pleasure Bailey :)

That tip of running the installer as admin may work for many other apps and drivers that dont install right with Vista and the Compatability and Run as Admin will allow them to interact with the OS better when run.

I installed the vista about a week after it launched, so i still had/have a few more programs to put back on. I did try your suggestion on 2 more programs that were not quite acting like themselves after the initial install, so after a quick cleanup with regcleaner/ccleaner (that i highly recommend btw) and a runasadmin launch they work fine now too.

has Roseman07 run the ccleaner installer in each profile? I've seen it happen before with multiple user accounts in XP. maybe the same with vista? ..the admin would install the app, but the other user accounts couldn't use the program unless it was installed under thier profile too.
    just a thought...
what about sending a working shortcut from your desktop to the other users in c:/users?

    thanks again
