Are any of the registry cleanup programs effective and if so are they liable to foul up the registry on a computer?

    Hi and welcome to MajorGeeks.

Any Registry tool has the potential to destroy it.

Most, if not all, automatically create a backup by default.

I suggest, that no matter which one you use, you create a Restore Point or Registry backup before you delete anything.

I use RegSeeker, which colour codes the results.

    Hi rich,

I use RegScrubXP, which is available on this site. It is more or less dummy proof. (which is why I use it.)

I also use RegScrubXP and have never had a problem. I'm going to try Regseeker and see which one I like more

I use RegSeeker and Registry Mechanic(shareware) and they seem too pick up what the other misses..
