While doing my daily PC housekeeping, Pest Patrol came across an entry for Trojan Win32.dialer.hc (before everyone tells me to go to another forum, read on). I dropped down through Hkey_Current_User\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\internet settings\zonemap\domains to find the problem and deleted it.

While I was in \domains I noticed at least 8 references to casinos, eg 101lottery.com, 123keno.com, adultgambling.org, etc.

    (1) As I have never visited an on-line casino, and never will, I am wondering how these probably valid, but unwanted, links got into my Registry.

    (2) What happens if I delete the entire contents of \domain?
Will it reconstitute itself, like index.dat does?

    (3) I assume that nothing serious will happen if I selectively delete unwanted entries from my \domains entries. Backing up the Registry, first, of course.

    (4) Can I write protect, or similar, my Registry so that I am warned, in future, when something is attempting to write to my Registry. I use Zone Alarm, Avast, Spybot S & D, and teatimer.exe every time I boot up. Plus lots of other tools to housekeep after I log off the 'net.

    (5) What is the best freeware Registry editor, including backup provisions, out there.

    (6) What is the best $$$$ Registry editor, including backup provisions, out there.

I hate programs that bypass my attempts to control what goes onto my PC.

    Bazza.

PS: Forgot to mention that I am using W98SE of this desktop that I am currently using. Baz

Bazza, while this may or may not anser your question 100% , I went to the same registry location and... well yes I have similar entries, to casinos, sex-thingys etc, where did they come from you ask... well do you have SpywareBlaster installed? if yes then its the blocked entries that SB adds for blocking.

As for Pest Patrol.. I dont have that app now a days, but I can only think its a false positive... do any other apps you have pick it up.... Ad-Aware, MS AntiSW etc?

Try running Spybot S&D too see if they pick up those registry entries...If not then they might be SpywareBlaster entries as Halo suggested...

There are some programs that will promt you too either allow or block a certain registry entries for Win98SE, they are:

    RegRun(shareware)

    RegistryProt(free)

Bazza, to answer your question, these sites are Internet Explorers restricted sites list.

In IE, Tools, Internet Options, Security tab, Restricted Sites, then click "Sites".

In other words, they should be left alone.

BTW Bazza, we don't believe you haven't been to any porn sites. :p
