I have just spent close to two +hours looking at registry and setting up for my problem related to the "Malware" forum.

However, I believe my problem MIGHt have to do with my registry.
    (recently removed some virus infections)
I downloaded Registry Repair fomr a Major Geeks link, just did a scan.

It found a bunch of crap like "C:yuv" that I don' even have on my computer!

I jus want this computer stuff to freaking end! Is there any GOOD programs that can tell me if my Windows XP home registry is missing vital files!~?

It seems every program is out to screw you in some way or another!

    Thanks.

PS: I don't evne know what time it is now, my virtual desktop from my UBCD4WIN CD is having a hard time.

    Greetings, RedSarge.

I suggest running some of the Microsoft repairs - at least you'll know they're legit programs.

First of all, run this Fix it - it's a good start. You might also take a look at this article.

Next, you might try running the Repair Console. If you don't have the Console on board, here's a good RC .iso download.

And, if you've got your XP disk handy, it never hurts to run an SFC scan.

Thank you Caliban [40k Dark Angels?]

I have spent the last 5 hours READING articles related to my problem, using a custom BOOT CD, so forgive me if I mix things up.

I am unable to run SFC.exe due to command line not switching over to C: with the "cd" command. And CHKDSK was not recommended to me by my PC, as I think my OS is OEM.

    My question to you is?

Since I can get into my C: drive and all other file folders.

Could I technically just copy and paste the missing DLL's or Drivers from my BOOT CD? I don't know the exact ones, and that is where SFC.exe would come in handy? When I try "Last Know Working Config" or "Safe Mode" (either one) my PC seems to reboot when it displays System32/Drivers..

It gets past a list of drivers and then reboots.

This has been such a long and frustrating day..

What happens when you boot to the Recovery Console?

    Well, I replaced "volsnap.sys" a System 32 Driver.

Now I am able to boot into Windows, upon inspection I am still infected.

I will attempt to run the Read & RUN ME process for Malware removal and see if that works. Thanks.

Registry cleaners/apps will NEVER fix your registry. The most they can do is remove extra things from the registry. They CANNOT correct wrong entries, or add missing entries.

In short, never use them. They're pretty much worthless.

12 hours later I am TDSS & malware FREE. But some registry issues where created.

My START menu is entirely devoid of any program except the most very recent install of a computer game. (Dune 2000)

How can I get all my programs back into the START menu? Use an old .reg and add each path one-by-one with notepad? I'LL DO IT!

If it can be done. Thanks.

Well, I went and did what was listed in my other thread SubInACL and the reset.cmd but it appears that my START MENU is void of all programs not installed specifically on the "RedSarge" profile, like MS Paint for example, or Mozilla Firefox and my recent Epson printer.

Used ACCRestore and restored some of my START menu programs.

or future reference, a ".lnk" file is vital for START menu references, I will assume that through my malware removal I lost a lot of ".lnk" files.
