Registry issues during an installation. Please help.

I am trying to install ESET NOD32 Antivirus on my PC, but during each installation attempt I keep getting a popup window that states:

"Could not write value Name to key \Software\ESET\ESET Security\CurrentVersion\Scheduler\1. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel."

It includes the options to cancel, retry, or ignore. Cancel stops the installation. Retry does nothing. Ignore immediately brings up the next window for another value that can't be written. This is my own computer and I am the administrator with full administrative rights. I did have a trial version of ESET at one point, but I uninstalled it recently. Checking the Registry Editor I did find keys named ESET (with subkeys) under CURRENT_USER and LOCAL_MACHINE, but I'm not sure if they were created by this installer or the trial version installer. I have never encountered this issue before. Any help is appreciated.

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate, 32-bit.

AppRemover doesn't seem to be able to uninstall ESET. Clicking on "Remove Security Application" allows it to find ESET and will then appear to uninstall it when I click "Next," but it turns out that ESET (at least in the registry) is still there. I can start the whole process over and over and AppRemover will find it every time, but not actually uninstall ESET or remove the keys. Clicking on "Clean Up a Failed Uninstall" doesn't detect anything.

I'm almost at the point of removing those registry keys manually.

Is there anything else that you think I should try?

    Please note the warning.
    Warning:

Also in the first console window, they have prompted to back up data!! Rather ominous.
If you wish to follow this route, I'd follow their instructions and create a restore point before hand.

    Cheers..

Are you running the installer as admin? I am not talking about permissions your user account has, but right clicking and running as administrator.

@sikvik, the ESETUninstaller seemed to do the trick for completely wiping out all the old ESET files, but the new ESET installation file is still having trouble. I'll see if I can find another solution for installing it. Thank you.

@Adrynalyne, this is a Windows Installer File (.msi) and does not have the option of "Run as administrator" when I right click on it.

Same error. I tried to install again and it seemed to be almost done then suddenly stopped with a message of installation failure. When I tried a second time I got the same registry error as before.

FixIt doesn't show ESET in the generated list of programs.

    Hi,

I would give this a try:

http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/3189/windowsrepair.gif Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop.
    • Now open Repair_Windows.exe
    • Go to Start Repairs tab.
    • Choose "Custom Mode" and press "Start".
    • Create a System Restore point if prompted.
    • In the Custom Mode window, select the following repair options:
      • Reset Registry Permissions
      • Reset File Permissions
      • Register System Files
      • Repair MSI (Windows Installer)
    • Now click the Start button.
    • Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
    • If asked to reboot the computer for the changes to take affect, make sure other tasks in the program are not still running before accepting to restart.

I know this post is from 2012 But I had to thank you. You saved my Life.
The repair worked like a charm.
Actually I downloaded a video that was a trojan. And Microsoft Security essentials could not even detect it.
So after cleaning it I tried installing Eset but it would not allow me.
It gave me the error error "Could not write value Name to key \Software\ESET\ESETSecurity\CurrentVersion\Scheduler\1. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key"

And also for some reason it did not allow me to edit Host files directly. Even though I was logged in as administrator.
Thanks to you I just installed Eset after using the repair tool.
Many people are facing this problem. Just like me they are pretty sure there is no previous installation of ESET.

I will just add some keywords below so that people find this post.

ESET installation failure, ESET NOD32 Smart Security, Administrator
