Registry on/off switch

I have the following message when trying to regedit in 'run' as follows.. ''registry editing has been disabled by your administrator'' How do i switch it back on being the administrator ???

Are you trying to run regedit with a limited user account?

Or are you on a domain?

Either of the above have the posibility to use Group Policies to disable registry editing.

Its also possible a virus/piece of spyware has edited the local registry to prevent you from doing this.

Go to Start -> run -> gpedit.msc
Can you run that?

 

Hi Goldfish... i am not on a domain am the sole user of this single com. I tried the gpedit.msc but no good not refused but cannot find, incidentally when I go to use Adminstrative tools in control panel they are also not finding relevant, Event Viewer/performance etc. saying 'Windows cannot find blah blah'' I did an extensive/ thorough AV check in Safe Mode,Windows32 folder and did find a couple of viruses but problem persists... any more ideas plz..

 

Hmm, thats weird.

Can you try grabbing a XP disc and doing a "sfc /scannow" at the command prompt? Sounds like somthing has been going on a riot in there...

 

Sounds like swen. Have you checked for viruses?

I have an inf file that fixes this.
Its the easiest way.

 

Here you go.

Unzip it, and then right click, and "install" the file.
