Hi, I used a registry cleaner which I am not familiar with, and since then I have been unable to use msconfig from the" run" box. It was a learning experience. Only CCleaner for me from now on..Everything else is working from the"run" box, and on computer also. I get an error saying the path cannot be found. Yet, I have a shortcut from Msconfig.exe in windows which is working fine, but iwould prefer to be able to use it from"run" as before. Would be grateful for any help here. Specs: WinXPHomeEdition, AVG8, 768RAM, CCleaner, SuperAntispyware, Spybot, WinXPFirewall, IE6.0, All Updated . Do I need to register some dlls here and, if so I would be grateful for some help. TY in anticipation. Boneyeye

    Re: ? Registry Problem

Hi, TY so much for answering so quickly. In answer to your question, alas, I was not offered a backup, which I now know should have warned me. Anyway I have learned a good lesson.I did find your link helpful, but when I went to find the reccomended Registry Key i.e. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\MSCONFIG.EXE is completly missing, so it must have been deleted, during the cleaning. I have tried to add this key as instructed in Registry Editor "Help" but it is showing as part of the "tree" of the previous key. Any help on this would be welcome. I have no problem adding the data value. That has been successful. TY again. Boneyeye

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\ already exists in the registry. You'll have to 'drill down' until your cursor is on App Paths\. When that's true, mouse-right-click to display the context menu. You'll see a setting called New. Expand this to reveal Key. Mouse-left-clicking will eneble editing a new key value which you'll want to name MSCONFIG.EXE. While still on the MSCONFIG.EXE key, double-click the default value in the right-hand pane. When the dialog box pops up, enter the path of C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Binaries\msconfig.exe which is the original location for MSConfig.exe.

Hurah!!! Hurah!!! Prometheos, problem solved. It is true to say that when the right person comes along a lot of problems can be solved. You have made an Irish Lady very happy, as I like to be able to keep a good eye on msconfig. utillity. So many programs put stuff in there which are unecessary, and taxes our resources. I have only 3 items in there. Also thanks to MarkTrent who gave me the link to ComputerHaven. I still think that Major Geeks is the best. It is my Home Page. Bye for now. Boneyeye
