I was poking around in the registry and I saw something that had me wondering. It's in the Hkey_Current_User. In the right window there is an entry which has an icon with 'ab' in it, 'default' 'Rg_sz' and '(value not set)' for name, type, and data. Next line there is one with a funny little icon, then this thing that looks like a quotation mark and a small letter "u", capital letter "U", each with an accent mark above it, and that is under name, then Reg_binary under type and then this whole string with 2c 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ... under data.

This shows up on my Windows XP Media Center Edition SP2 desktop. It doesn't appear on my XP Pro SP2 laptop.

I have no other reason to think there is anything wrong with the PC with this registry entry. I was just there checking on something because I was helping someone else clear one of those rogues out of their system, and I was comparing a registry key malwarebytes had removed from his system. (Long story, but anyway, that's the only reason I was in my own registry.) I don't know how long this entry has been there in my registry. I had just done a full scan with AVG free today and I scan with Malwarebytes and SAS every day. I can't see anything untoward in a Hijack This log. No changes since one of the Malwarebytes staffers checked it a couple of weeks ago when a rogue tried to infect my computer...I got the all clear from them. No abherrant behavior being displayed by this system at all.

I just wondered if anyone else has something besides that one 'default' line in that spot in the registry. Kind of a curiosity.

So I saw "DSO Exploit" and went :eek!!!! "What's THAT?!" Then I googled it and saw it's really not a big deal.:) I haven't used Spybot in a long time, but I ran it and it didn't find anything. Might be interesting to remove the entry and see what happens, but I'm not feeling that brave so I'll leave it there and see if anyone else might know what this could be. And I always watch my systems like a hawk anyway :strong to make sure they're behaving normally. (I read the malware forums and it is scary what lurks out there on the internet these days! :tas ) It would help if I had a clue how long this entry has been there, but I have no idea.

    Thanks for your response. :)
