    Windows XP (SP2)

I go into the Regisgtry under HKLM and HKCU and drill down to Windows>Run and deleate all the automatic start up items. Then I do an MSCONFIG and uncheck the same start up items.

When I restart my computer I find that most of the HKLM and HKCU items have been reinstalled as well as in System Config Utility Startup like:

    MskAgent (McAfee program)
    McAfee Update
    McAgent (McAfee program)
    MSMSGS
    Epon Print Driver from Windows>Spool
    ctfmon (Windows\System 32\ctfmon.exe

I know that when you run programs, they tend to put themselves into the Registry and on the System Config Start Utility, but why would they reappear right after being removed?

You will have to check each of those programs for menu listings which give you auto startup/update options, if you dont generally the apps themselves re-install the startup.

eg. MSN Mess if you open goto Tools > Options > general and untick all the options under Sign In
