i just re-installed and used "RegScrubXP finds problems" mode (as i have done in the past) and it found a whopping 634 problems. In comparison, my other- RegCleaner - found 6. I figured, since i had just done a major house-cleaning on my computer, rid it of all (?) viruses, spyware and malware, and firewalled it (Antivir, Spybot S&D, SpywareBlaster, Sygate), that it was okay....

i went ahead with the cleanup, and my computer began acting very screwy. My recycle bin disappeared, as did My Computer and My Network Places icons, and links stopped working, things became extremely slow....just being flushed right on down the vortex....

So i restored the RegScrub backup, uninstalled it and erased its files, and restarted my computer. My recycle bin is back, but other icons are missing and my desktop has changed, as has my taskbar and start menu.

What is going on here? RegScrubXP used to work SO well for me.

Please, any insights? i hate "unexplained" phenomena on my computer- since these "little things" are always just the beginning of something major a-brewin'

    thx:rolleyes:

Have you tried a system restore? That might fix things up.
As to why your problem happened, Im not 100% sure, lemme do some research.

When you say "a major house-cleaning on my computer" what exactly did you remove/un-install or clean up?

If you took out alot of folders and files you may have removed some small parts that windows needs to run properly, when RegScrub found some broken paths and you removed them it may have made your system unstable.

Try running a scandisk and see if you are missing any thing important.

Think you mean chkdsk - scandisk finished at W98 methinks
I would be inclined to do a system file check just to make sure all are intact.
Go Run and type 'sfc scannow' without the quote marks and have your XP disk ready

    Sorry

Yes, I meant to say sfc scannow.

It will find any files XP needs and replace them.

    Thanks, Robert. :p

Not sure if it is the same program (RegScrub and RegScrubXP) but it might be worth checking out. Bazza
