RegSupreme/Backup Registry Question

I've recently downloaded the RegSupreme registry cleaner, but want to backup my registry before I let RegSupreme remove all the invalid entries. I'm running XP Pro and have tried to use the Backup Tool found in System Tools.

I opened the Backup Wizard>>clicked on Advanced Mode>>clicked on Backup Tab>>chose Disk (C) and System State.

In the selection for Backup Destination box it has in it "File", but "File" is grey in colour. The dropdown area for this box will not give me any other choices.

In the area for "Back Media or File Name" it displays A:\Backup.bkf. If I click on the Browse button beside the A:\Backup.bkf, a window pops ups asking to insert a disk into Drive A. No other options are offered.

It was my understanding that the registry could be backed up to tape, or to a writeable CD-Rom. I have Nero Express installed and assumed that I would be able to do a backup to it.

Thank you in advance for any assistance offered about what I'm doing wrong.

 

Click Start/ run/ type in regedit.
Then click on file at the top, and choose "export"

It will write your registry to a .reg file in any folder you choose.

Will backing up by the method you suggested end up with the same results.

 

I've never had to use it,, but I believe it does get the whole registry in the .reg file. If Regsupreme deletes keys, and you right click the .reg file, and choose "merge" it will fill in the missing entries.

But, xflat was right on the money. regsupreme will back up your deleted entries for you.
