RegSupreme update adds new translations only

From the Macecraft site, via the Major Geeks front page:

"An updated version of RegSupreme 1.0 (1.0.0.20) [was just] released. The update only contains new translations. [...] The update doesn't contain any bug fixes."

If you haven't tried it, get it HERE, at MG . You'll be impressed.

During the installation, you don't need to take the Translations. If you don't check that option, you just get the English file.

(Yah, I know, that's a foreign language to some of you guys, but ...)

 

After I installed this build version and run it the first time, it got hung at the initial scanning when building the cache. The previous build version worked fine.

 

Did you update the licensed 1.0, or did you overwrite the unlicensed 1.0 trial with the new trial? Not that it ought to make any difference, but I'm interested.

I know (from this forum) that you can't successfully uninstall the trial and then re-install.

 

<Raises hand>Err . . . umm . . . Yup, overwrote the unlicensed trial with the new and . . . ZOT! Buy or die, dude. So, I'm now waiting for my license key to arrive via email. If the thing wasn't such a good program and I hadn't already decide to buy it, I'd be peeved.

 

Remember from the previous thread on RegSupreme that the license comes in as an attachment, so watch any spam filters you've got running, AND it comes in with a .zip extension, but it isn't a .zip file, so don't double-click it expecting it to open up a la WinZip. You just move the .zip folder to the program installation folder.

I'm not sure what you do if you don't have a program installation anymore, but my guess is that you download and install the program, but don't run it, then move the license folder into the program folder, and THEN run the program.

 

I've still got the program in windows explorer. Wonder if I just copy the zip file to data file folder under reg. supreme file if that would work?

 

Sounds like the right method to me. If it fails, a note to tech supp at Macecraft should get you a fix right away. Save the e-mail message the license comes in with, so you can use the addresses in it.

I'm enjoying the program even more now that jv has pointed out (on this forum) that you can edit the Default IgnoreList.dat file to exclude anything you want RS to stop finding. I've added about 20 entries that get re-created every time they're deleted, even though they go nowhere. Now I can run an Extra Deep search with RS and get a "No Problems Found" report.

I found, by the way, that after I cleared the 1000 (thousand) entries RS found on my first three sweeps, ...
when I ran NT Registry Optimizer, it reported a 10% reduction in the size of my reg.

RegSupreme hung on me too when optomizing the cache. It did not hang the computer. But it stayed up for an hour with its "Please Wait 2-20 minutes" thingie before I closed it. This is a 2 week old install of XP and has never seen the program before.
