    Hi all,
Here's my situation: I bought a Dell a while back and it's out of warranty. Well, it decided to puke on me. I have another machine that I would like to get running again. I'm going to run Windows Me on it but the only disk I have is the one from Dell. Now I'm assuming since I bought a Dell and I have the disk and the OEM number, I should be able to install it on another pc legally. But when I try to run the install I get an error: Message SU0173. This version of Windows Millennium Edition cannot be installed on your computer. Please obtain the correct version from your computer manufacturer.

I would assume that setup is looking at the BIOS or something to determine that it's not a Dell. Is there a setup file that I can modify to make it not look for a manufacturer? Thanks so much everybody.

From my past experiences, i have not been able to install a disk that was specialized for one pc, on another. One thing i could suggest (if you have dsl), is to go and download windows ME, & burn it onto a disk.

I have used Dell discs on non-Dell systems. Are you sure the computer is capable of handling Win Me? Or perhaps it needs proprietary drivers that are not on the Dell CD. Most likely the latter.....
