    Since reinstalling Windows 7 on my PC my audio doesn't work. I first noticed the issue in the sytem tray with an audio icon with a cross on it. Mousing over this warning displayed a message, "No speakers or headphones are plugged in." Double clicking on this icon opened a windows troubleshooting window. It ran some tests and told me that the issues it was designed to look for were not present. Leaving me with the options of system recovery or finding help. System recovery is not an option as I do not have a factory settings image/boot disc.

    In control panel > sound > playback I have one device, I am currently showing both disconnected and disabled devices;

    Digital Audio (HDMI)
    2- High Definition Audio Device
    Not plugged in

    There is nothing I can do from here to make any positive changes to the situation, only disable/enable device, "Test" is greyed out, properties tells me the device is working fine.

    The drivers are Microsoft drivers from 13/07/2009 (UK format) the version is 6.1.7600.16385.

    In control panel > device manager > Sound, video and game controllers there are two sound devices. Both called "High Definition Audio Device". One says it is using the same drivers mentioned above, the other says it is using Microsoft drivers from 19/11/2010, driver version 6.1.7601.17514.

    Showing hidden devices does not show me anything else that could be construed as an audio device, faulty or otherwise. Windows suggests that both devices are working fine and are up to date.

    Checking through these windows are the limit of my technical knowledge for this issue, I'm obviously none the wiser on how to fix this issue so I'm asking for help.

    The company that I purchased my computer from is Cube 24/7, now bust.
    OS is windows 7(x64) Home Premium, 6.1.7601 service pack 1 build 7601
    My motherboard is an ASRock N68-s http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?model=n68-s
    The BIOS version is; American Megatrends Inc. P1.80, 03/11/2009 (Format?)

    I know the audio chips on this MoBo are supplied by Realtek, since reinstall I've noticed that the Realtek HD audio manager is missing and I cannot find it in any discs supplied with the PC. The ASRock website gives a list of programs and utilities to download for this specific MoBo, one of them was a realtek audi driver package. Upon trying to install it canceled with the message, "No Driver was supported in this package." This version of the Drivers was R2.31, I tried installing a much newer set of driver R2.64 (or somewhere around there). After a successful install and restart there was no change. Tried using device manager to mount these drivers, windows didn't seem to be interested in, nor could I find them to install manually.

    I think that is all the pertinent information if anything you need is missing i'll be happy to post it. I am also willing to reinstall again if needed to go back to scratch. Thanks in advance, Alochai.

    Thankyou, it worked! Oh the feeling when I heard the Windows startup sound, words cannot describe.

    Well now both my speakers and mic are working, I'll have to use them properly (some VoIP and World of Warcraft should do it).

    Thanks again for the help.
