Ok folks, I know this is a basic question but I'm drawing a blank here. Can't seem to remember what files we have to save to disk in order to retain the settings for the desktop, various personal settings and security keys and such when reinstalling win xp pro. Any help would be appreciated as it is on the wife's machine and all us married men know that when the wife ain't happy... nobody is happy! Thanks!

Those would all be in your "Documents and Settings" folder. Everything is in there. If you do a backup to CD, make sure you don't copy stuff like music and pictures. They take up too much space. Back those up on a separate disk.

I would suggest that you use the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" as well.

If I remember correctly, if you boot from the install disk, it is one of the first options.

    Good luck
