Reinstalling win98 help please

I have read tutorials on how to reinstall win98 without losing your data, but all that I have read is as much work to it, I figure it's just as easy to reformat and do a clean install........reloading drivers and everything. I am not wanting to do that right now. Yes I know how but just don't wanna spend the time to do it.

A number of years ago, a place I worked had a bunch of Dell computers. I had to call the tech support one day for a problem one of the computers had. The guy had me insert the win98 cd and pull up the "run" and type in something like D:setup win98\ /d but I can't remember............

It like installed windows "Over" windows without bothering any data that was there...........but replaceing windows files that were corrupt. Can anyone tell me how to do this again? what do I need to type in the run box?

Do you mean D:\WIN98\setup /d

NOTE: Where D: is the Drive letter of your CDROM.

• /d - This switch bypasses using your existing Windows configuration (such as your current Win.ini and System.ini files).

Yep......I think thats what I was trying to remember ..........so far thats working on my kids computer. They just use it to surf, and play games is why I didn't want to do everything to do a clean install.
