my daughters Compaq computer crashed. entire computer is frozen, start menu will not open, CD ROM drive will not respond.

I have a copy of Windows XP, but not the compaq restore disks. The computer is only six months old. Obviously she was running it and turning off her firewall constantly, which I advised her not to do.

    What can i do?

Actually, Compaq HP has pretty good support. As Compuablle suggested, I would give them a try. I have chatted with them many times regarding an OLD Compaq system I have, and they have never hesitated to help me.

It may be that the "Restore" is in a partition on the HD. That is how they used to do it and that is how Dell now does it. You may have to hit some special keys on startup to get to the utility.
