reinstalling windows xp with new motherboard

I had to replace an emachine power supply then motherboard due to a dead computer. I did not use the same brand of motherboard, but did use one with the same specifications. So, this was not an upgrade. Now, when I start the computer using the emachine restore disks, I cannot get past the screen that has me choose between start windows normally or last know configuration. What do I do??? I have tried choosing both options, but neither works. Any suggestions?

 

I am no expert but I think you need a full copy of XP to proceed. The disk you are using will be geared to the old motherboard and simply won't work with a different setup.

Any experts like to comment?

 

Do you want to reinstall XP? If you want to boot off the CD you may have to change the boot order in the BIOS. To enter BIOS you have to hit a key or keys right when the computer is booting. Sometimes it will tell you what key on screen. Try F2 or F10 for a start.

 

Not really - it has already been done by the engineers struggling to find out why it has this problem.

Since I posted it has of course been working perfectly so all I can do is wait and see I think.
