    Hello,

Had a serious malware infection, an outside pro reloaded Windows XP Home in lieu of XP Professional. My old data is/was saved all my programs seem to be in tact. The current issue is all of my old settings have vanished such as start menu icons, mouse driver link, etc. If I open each program I can rebuild it all, however I do have a full back up from a few months ago and am hoping that I can move/copy a few basic files and get myself more fully restored back a system I am more familiar with.

    Any help is always appreciated.

    Thank you,

    M

Well done you just "rebuilt" your Windows and saved all data in the process. To reset your personal settings in the context of complete data loss are minimal. The only way is to restore a previous "problematic" image (the worst possible thing to do as it will be infected).

You got your data be thankful.........learn not to have to do it again.
