Hi all, I gave a professional hacker remote access to my computer via team viewer. I was introduced to an online business through him and he was showing me how to set up my blog etc etc. My question is, even though team view is supposed to be safe because the password resets on ever session, could he have downloaded any type of code, bot, virus, software of any kind that would give him access even when my computer is off. I took a computer class once and the professor said that gaining accesss to your computer even when it's off is possible, and the best thing to do is just to unplug it. Another question is, could he without my knowing it put any type of code that would extract all of my information on my computer over to his automatically? When the team viewer opened up I saw the word root twice, didn't know what was going on. How do I look for that type of spyware/ program, and how to delete it? My next question is, is there any material on this site that will help you understand the different methods that hackers use to gain access to your system and ways to protect yourself? I would like to study material thats found in the books that one would study to get their CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker) certification. Is there material on this site like that? One last thing, I know that Hijack This is for pro's, but is there a manual on here that shows a novis how to run it and what to look for that needs to be deleted off of a system? I know I might have been stupid in giving him access but I've been dealing with him for a while. Thanks for all your help.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Why in the world would you allow any hacker to have access to your PC???????

What kind of business would you want to be doing with a hacker????

There is no access to your PC when it is off. A PC has to be turned on to access it. However some network interface cards have options to wake up your PC upon activity being received on the ethernet interface. Then there would be the chance for access after the PC is powered up.

Yes. You gave him access yourself.

Uninstall Teamviewer and any other remote access software and then run the below:

How to protect yourself is in the below link:

How to Protect yourself from malware!

Not on this website. See the below:

International Council of E-Commerce Consultants (EC-Council.)

HijackThis is an old outdated program of very limited use and capabilities these days. It is not that useful in helping to find most of the real common malware problems that exists these days. It does not even find the reasons for the most common hijacking issues that exist. Basically it has some use but other tools are much more useful. However we have had a basic tutorial around for years but do not update it anymore since the program has not changed much and it really is not worth the time to update a tutorial anymore. See: HJT Tutorial - DO NOT POST HIJACKTHIS LOGS

If you really fully trusted him, why would you be here asking these questions. ;)

Thanks Chaslang. What are the new and better alternatives to hijack this?

All the tools that you see in the sticky/pinned threads at the top of each forum page and all the additional tools that you will see being used in the fixes in each thread in the forums.

You will not find too much in the way of documentation on the use of of these tools posted publicly as that is not done on purpose since only trained malware removal experts should be using them in most cases and because we don't want malware creators to understand everything there is to know about the tools either.
