Remote Assistance

When using Remote Assistance on a Win7 system connecting with another Win7 computer, the connection is made... but the computer that is going to provide the help can't take control of the mouse on the system requesting help. The system that's going to provide the help can see the other desktop, but can't control the mouse.

The system requesting help is running Win7 Starter, the other is running Win7 Home Premium. Is that the problem, or something else?

If you continue being unable to get Remote Assistance to work I suggest you get TeamViewer. You can use the QuickSupport version on the machine receiving the support. That version doesn't need installing, you just plug in a flash drive and it runs.

 

Unfortunately, I can't install teamviewer on my Win 7 Home Premium system, or even use “Join Remote Control Session.” The install appears to run in 10 sec, but never finishes. It doesn't hang my system or anything. It just doesn't complete. I've rebooted and repeated the process a couple of times.

Regarding “Join Remote Control Session” on the Win 7 Home Premium system... nothing happens when I click on it. Very strange. If anything, I thought I might have problems with the netbook Win 7 Starter system. But that system can install teamviewer or use “Join Remote Control Session”.

To my knowledge, I have no virus on the Win 7 Home Premium system, and it runs fine in every other respect... just can't use Remote Assistance or install Teamviewer.

 

Those two problems will have a common cause I suspect. You could try installing TeamViewer 'as Administrator' but tbh I doubt it will make any difference. There is probably a background process both need that is not starting, but I don't know what it might be. Hopefully someone else may.

 

Remote Assistance problem RESOLVED!! My wife is correct. I'm BLIND. I never noticed the request at the top left of my screen... asking if I wanted to take control of the other computer
