Gang I read a couple of well-intentioned guides on this but no worky.
I have Vista Basic [latest service packs etc all done] on a PC on my LAN, and have Windows XP on same - same workgroup. I have 'remote access allow' enabled on the Vista system. How do I then use the Windows XP Pro system to gain remote control of the Vista??
    I'm reading but I'm not comprehending :(

I guess I could use something like Teamviewer, but if there is an all-windows, low-overhead way, I'd much prefer that.

    all help greatly appreciated!

reading through that [very thorough], with no reference to vista or its several variants, it strikes me that the way to do it is teamviewer.
far quicker to establish - the only thing I don't know is whether there is anything about t'viewer that would defeat use on the local lan. I doubt it. my recall is that teamviewer uses invitations by which to configure the addressing of the connection - it shouldn't matter what the routing is

actually, the features are all there -which surprised me - or at least the GUI components are. I had them all selected and configured just like 'ultimate'.
i wonder if this was thrown in via sp2 ???
the only part that was stumping me was: "ok, its all set on both ends but where's the 'start' button"?? like where to I hit "go" ? :p

at any rate, that's why clever people developed things like Logmein and Teamviewer
