Remote Desktop from 2K to XP

Hey guys,

Is there any way to get an XP Pro system to remote desktop into a Windows 2000 system. We have a user that wants to be able to access his work system from home. He used to use VNC but we wanted to get away from that. Any ideas? Thanks!

 

Well I haven't been able to do this natively with any MS apps. Had to get VNC to work, even if its not ideal for us. :-/

 

Windows Remote Desktop need WinXP Pro as an Host.

You can remoter from Win2000 to XP but Not from XP to Win2000.

UltraVNc is a great program and can be made very secured.

I could be mistaken as we've migrated to all XP workstations, but I'm fairly certain I've been able to RDC into a Win2K machine from XP using the Remote Desktop Connection client. (Which had to be separately installed on Win 2K machines)

(Actually, this MUST be the case, because at the time, we would NOT have wanted for a 2000 machine to RDC into an XP box - at the very least, it's worth a try, if it hasn't been done yet)

Well to add to the confusion mada, you can remote to a windows 2000 terminal server, but not a regular windows 2000 pro box.

 

Yup. It's that 'terminal server' service that makes all the difference.

 

Ah ya that makes sense. It's just a 2000 Pro system, that is the problem. Oh and I'll test out UltraVNC too for future reference. Thanks for the input guys!
