Remote Desktop Help please!!!

I can not get remote desktop to work
I have two computers at home that I am just trying to get it to work on for now. My first computer has vista and the other has xp.

I have enabled rd on both computers and have made exceptions in the firewall and my antivirus firewall as well

I checked to see if port 3389 was properly opened with software that checked to see if it was open and the tcp port was opened

I made both my computers use static ip addresses with
192.168.1.10 & 192.168.1.23

But whenever I go to try and connect to the other one i type in 192.168.1.10 and it prompts for username and password and i type that in and then it will never connect

Am i missing something??
Help please!

 

I'd disable all firewalls temporarily just to see if that might be a problem.
Also I'd check on the Vista machine the Remote Desktop settings (allow any version of RD rather than using Network Level Authentication).
