I get annoying Remote Desktop Connection Error message when logging on, if I leave the message on my screen I am still able to log on to the remote computer. If I click send error report or don't send, I am kicked out of remote desktop application.

I have XP Pro- Service pac 3 was recently installed- Remote Desktop-v.6.0.6001 - Remote Desktop Protocol 6.1 supported

Have been using remote desktop for long time- no problems
Now when I log on I get

Remote Desktop Connection has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

    AppName: mstsc.exe AppVer: 6.0.6001.18000 ModName: sdrdp5.dll

I finally had to uninstall service pack 3. I was getting more and more errors, the computer was locking and I couldn't even do a control alt delete. Task manager would not end programs. I have my finger crossed but so far since I uninstalled service pack 3, everything seems to be running fine. Thanks to all who looked at my question, even if no one was able to reply to my problem.

    Are you using Tricerat Screwdrivers?

If so, update the client. There appears to be some sort of conflict between versions older than 4.01XXX and the lovely (sarcasm) RDP 6.

I don't know what Tricerat Screwdrivers are. Can you explain?
    Thank you.

As we all are aware, printing through terminal services and RDC has generally been a nightmare. Only printers that are directly connected to the lpt port can print, registry hacks, printer driver needs to be installed on the server, etc.... just to get a session to print.

Anyway, Tricerat has a piece of software (Screwdrivers) that eliminates all of that other malarkey and simplifies the print process. It allows the printers installed locally to the client computer to "come along for the ride" without requiring one to install the printer on the server. It really is great software and has cured a lot of my headaches.

However, there appears to be an issue with Screwdrivers clients older than 4.014.NN and Microsoft RDC 6.0.6. It's merely a matter of unistalling the older screwdriver client and installing the latest.

If you open Control Panel (make sure in Classic mode), look for an icon for Screwdrivers Client vN (two computers connected to a printer). Double click the icon and on the General screen, check the version number. If it looks old, update.

Are you the IT guy? If not, check with your IT people and tell them you need an updated Screwdriver's client. Show them this thread. If you are the IT guy, I would have assumed you knew about Screwdrivers, so your problem may lay elsewhere.

Updating the client has helped all of my end-users that have had this exact problem.

Thank you! A clients rdp server installed screwdriver on my computer. I wasn't aware of the program. Sure enough I had v3. I called tricerat support and installed v4. He mentioned that he was aware of the Service Pack 3 problem.
ps. I am a have to be administrator, always learning, but I am not an "real" IT guy.

Saw this solution about updating Screwdriver. Was not a member before, but joined just to say thank you, even several years after your post.
