Remote Desktop quit working

I cannot connect to my desktop using the Remote Desktop connection. I used to do it all the time. The only thing I can think of that has changed since the last time I successfully connected was that I got a new Pocket PC. Thinking that ActiveSync may somehow be interfering (and I don't see how it would), I disabled it, but that did not solve the problem. I even shut down my firewall, even though I've been running the firewall all along.

Here is the error message when I try to connect:

"The client could not establish a connection the the remote computer. The most likely causes are:
1) Remote connections might not be enabled at the remote computer.
2) The maximum number of connections was exceeded at the rememote computer.
3)A network error occurred while establishing the connection."

I checked to make sure Remote Desktop is enabled on this machine, and indeed it is. One thing that's strange about this error message is that it appears almost instantly after clicking Connect. It's not like it spends a lot of time searching for the computer, like it would if you type in an IP that doesn't exist or doesn't support Remote Desktop.

I have tried a couple different routers, and still get the same problem. However, I can remote into my laptop from my desktop.

Are you saying you're trying to connect across your LAN? Is the IP address of the desktop hard coded or dynamic? Maybe it has changed because the Pocket PC is grabbing the IP you're used to using to connect to the desktop.

 

Yes, I am trying to connect across my LAN, from my laptop to my desktop. The other way works fine. Right now IP's are dynamic, but I ran ipconfig on the desktop to verify its IP before attempting to connect. I'm not using wireless on the PPC, so I don't see how that is relevant.

 

I never got this resolved and I kinda put it on the back burner, but now I really want to get it fixed. Please help.
