Hi, I currently use a desktop pc and a laptop, both run from the same router, the laptop is wireless. Anyway when I use my laptop either in bed or downstairs I need to access my desktop. Is there a program I can setup so i can get onto my pc's desktop and use that computer from my laptop. So i can control the mouse, acces all the files aswell as file transfer? If so will the program allow me to access the home pc from another computer apart from my laptop if I am at my friends house on there computer?

    Thanks.

you can use Yoics to do what you want. When remote you can just use a browser to access both machines.

yes, i happen to work for the company, but it will solve your problem.

I'm not familiar with the above program but there are many good free ones; any flavor of VNC (Instant, Ultra, etc), Team Viewer, and others are available in the Admin Tools section here at Major Geeks, and there may be others in the Networking section....

whoops, sorry let me clarify. Yes, I agree that there are lots of good remote desktop solutions out there. What Yoics does is eliminate the need for port forwarding & allows for remote access via the web, think of it as VPN meeting instant messaging.

The free download comes pre-configured with RealVNC, but will work with just about any flavor of VNC as well as Microsoft Remote desktop.

    best

I just got done checking out the web site.... cool! This Yoics looks like a good app. I'm assuming it's totally free 'cuz I didn't see anything on their web site that said "Buy now" or "Purchase" or even "30 day trial" so I guess it's freeware, but I didn't actually see anything that said "freeware" either. I did see some things that said "free download" but that isn't the same as "freeware".... but Yoics does look good. I'm thinking about installing it on my home PC so I can access it from work just to see how it works (if it is freeware).

    Hi,

in reference to this thread/these type of programs: I don't see yoics(.com) listed in the admin tools section - is that because it is new, or because perhaps it has not been "tested" by MG's?

    Thanks in advance,
