G'day all, while dealing with some cooling issues with my main rig (win7), it occurred to me how handy it would be to be able monitor things like temperature or diagnostics by connecting my netbook (MSIWind(win7)) to the main rig while running high demand programs and full screen games. Is this possible without to much drama? What would be the simplest way to try this?

    Cheers

I can think of two possible solutions:

    1. This could be achieved if you have a diagnostics program that outputs logs to a file, to network the folder that text file will be created in, and to then access that file from your laptop. Ideally you'd want a program which does something with that log file such as build a graph or streams from it. I don't know of any programs that do either of those things, but that's the logic you'll be looking for. I'm sure many monitoring programs have an option for logging/reporting, although I am less sure there's a program which interprets the file rather than you having to read through it all! (Back when I used to play Everquest the game allowed logging to a text file, and I wrote a program to monitor that file for various different reasons.)

    2. The second program to look for is specifically what you're describing - a remote diagnostics utility. The logic would be the same as in the first case, but it would be specifically made for those purposes, meaning rather then messing with log files it would probably stream the information directly. I imagine such a utility would have to be purchased rather than freeware, but you never know.

Sorry I can't give you any specific program names, but hopefully those ideas will lead to a particular utility.

G'day, I've found VCTemp 0.9B which claims to work with CoreTemp to show temps, but I can not find any info on how to use it or best set up the rigs.

    Cheers
