Removal of ctfmon.exe

I have this running in my Windows XP Home edition and while I know it is used for language bar (among other things I believe) I don't really want it running as I've been runnign just fine without it. However recently i noticed it sitting them on the Task Manager and I want to see what I can do to remove it. Recently all things I've searched for only seem to address it's removal from Office XP but nothing for Home Edition.

Any ideas what I can do? Going to msconfig to prevent it from going at startup hasn't worked thsu far. Any ideas welcomed.

Thanks for the link, however I don't see any program that could be using it. I don't have any Office XP products installed that I can see in that menu or at least none I can identify. Most of the installations are third party.

 

if you REALLY want it to go away.
Rename the file and then remove this key from the registry

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\ctfmon.exe]

backup your registry before you do this, for if you toast your machine, I will not take the blame

in my experience, CTFMON still loads unless you remove it from the registry.. I will try your solution snakefoot and let you know how it works out for me. Thanks

 

CTFMON.exe and CTFMON.DLL are not the same thing.
