    Hi

I just scanned my wife's work laptop with Rootrepeal as it was doing all sorts of weird things and it came up that she has an MBR rootkit.

I have read that to remove them you need to insert the OS disc and run recovery console, but this is her work laptop so will it let me do it with my copy of XP? Should I do it with my copy? and if not is their an alternative?

    Thanks

Fixed it without the OS cd!!!! with Prevx 3.0

Now the laptop is running like a dream, that was
one nasty virus because it was completely undetected
until I ran rootrepeal from the cleaning procedure on here,
    so thanks for that.

The infection was causing internet explorer to crash
    constantly
